Matthew Doner is starting over. After a five-year prison term that alters every aspect of his life, he receives a bequest from his aunt with the stipulation that he use the money to make things right. Breaking free of the long-standing role he's played and inspired by the few who support him, he decides to create a safe place where people like him can find purpose and start a new life.

Julian Capeletti likes challenges. He is confident, brash, stubborn, and just what Matt needs. Desperate for work after a downturn of luck, he accepts the job to renovate Matt's crumbling building.

Over the course of a year, romance simmers between them as they restore the house. But there's a bigger renovation that must take place in their hearts. To become better men, they need to learn to trust each other even with secrets and painful memories they fear may rip them apart.

Kay's Review
This is a beautiful story about two damaged men—one looking for acceptance, the other searching for some stability and a place to call home—both finding each other and love.

Matt is out of prison after five years and plans to build a halfway home for ex-cons with the inheritance from his late aunt. He sees it as a kind of atonement for his past and a tribute to friend he lost. Except no building contractor would take the project until he meets Julian.

Julian's brash attitude rubs Matt up the wrong way for the right reasons, if you catch my drift. But luckily for Matt, he accepts the job and over the course of a year, their interactions lead to love.

As in any love story, the road is filled with obstacles and troubles but I love the way Julian stood by Matt throughout his trials. We can only wish to find love that is as fierce and steadfast as they have for each other.

My only beef is that I really would've loved more showing descriptions and less of the telling for some of their interactions.

This is my first time of reading this author and I really can't wait to read the next book in the Men of Halfway House series. A great read.
